SUBJECT MATTERS

Curator, Dr. Charles Moore

Richard Beavers Gallery is thrilled to announce our upcoming participation in EXPO CHICAGO 2026 - BOOTH #107. From April 9–12, we’ll be taking over the Windy City with “Subject Matters,” a powerful group exhibition curated by the esteemed Dr. Charles Moore. This presentation isn’t just a display; it’s a vital interrogation of what it truly means for a community to matter in an era of rewritten histories and politicized identities.

Our booth will serve as a sanctuary for layered narratives, bringing together a multidisciplinary cohort of artists who illuminate the complex, lived experiences of Black life within inner-city environments. Through a stunning blend of figuration and abstraction, these works subvert traditional narratives of oppression. Instead, they center on the cultural richness, ingenuity, and self-determination that flourish despite systemic inequities.

At its heart, “Subject Matters” is a call to dialogue. By portraying the nuances of the Black psyche and the beauty of daily life, our artists challenge stereotypes and invite viewers to foster deeper empathy and solidarity. We are proud to insist on a future where these stories—long suppressed—are finally recognized as essential. Join us at EXPO CHICAGO as we celebrate the endurance of Black communities and the art that demands they be seen.
